Mildred Mccormick

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday December 28th from 5-7 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM at St. Joseph's Church.

Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery.

Mildred Ursula Lyons McCormick, known affectionately as Buzzy, died on December 18th, while surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born in Auburn NY on July 31st, 1927 to Mildred and William Lyons.  She graduated as the valedictorian of Dannemora High School and decided to move by herself to New York City to study nursing and contribute to the war effort. After graduating from Mt. Sinai School of Nursing, Mildred moved to Walden, NY where she learned to fly a Piper Cub single-engine plane, worked as a nurse, and eventually met Richard McCormick, whom she would marry in 1950. Their marriage would last 73 years and produce four children, Kimberly (Narolewski), Kelly (Lyndaker), Kevin, and Kyle.

While a full-time nurse for the Kingston school district, Mildred completed her bachelor's in nursing education and a master's degree in education.  She then transitioned from the health office to support student literacy as a Title I reading specialist until 1988. In retirement, she enjoyed travel, card games, and celebrations with her husband, friends, and loved ones. Mildred and Richard celebrated birthdays, weddings, graduations, and special events with their twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her busy work schedule and family commitments, Mildred was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Church. She also volunteered and helped to plan activities at Hudson Valley Senior Residence until she was 94.

Mildred and Richard's hospitality was legendary. People in crisis or transition were embraced and supported– whether you were a friend of a friend or someone who needed a little more family, you knew you would be welcomed. While the McCormick family officially numbered six people, 208 Main Street frequently housed many more for extended periods of time. One didn't need an invitation and the kitchen almost always had an extra guest or two or ten.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Richard, her four children; Kim (Jerome), Kelly (Scott), Kevin (Kitty), and Kyle (Bonnie); her grandchildren, Kristin (Zack), Michael, Matthew (Amanda), Caleb (Erin), Danielle (Brian), Justin (Darcy), Nicholas (Jason), Matthew, Patrick (Susima), Meghan, and Kate (Mitch), and Joshua (Gianna); and six great-grandchildren, Mason, Emma, Mira, Bode, Olivia, and Beckett.

In addition to her immediate family, Mildred is survived by many beloved godchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
