Oscar F. Ahrens

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Burial will be at Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, NY on Saturday at 11:15 AM.

Ahrens, Oscar F. - of Kingston, NY. Born in Kingston, New York on July 23, 1940. He was the son of Oscar F. Ahrens Sr. and Rosalind (Winters) Ahrens.

He graduated from Kingston High School in 1959. Oscar enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 for 4 1/2 years as a first class airman. He worked at Albany Avenue Garage and then retired from Central Hudson Gas & Electric after 32 years as a mechanic. Oscar was an avid NASCAR fan attending many races rooting for Bill Elliott. He also was an amateur radio operator for for over 65 years. Starting with call sign WA2KLV then went to KD2NE. In 1962 he married Nancy K. Benkert of Kingston. Oscar was a devoted and loving father to his two children Michael Ahrens (Oilda Barreto) of Port Ewen, NY and Kathryn Ahrens-D'Aragona (Nicholas) of Highland, NY. In 2005 he became a Poppy to Samantha D'Aragona. His granddaughter was his pride and joy. When she was a baby she spent many days sleeping on her poppy pillow.

Besides his wife, children and granddaughter, Oscar is also survived by two brother-in-law's Roger Yarter of Carthage, SC and Doug Eighmey of West Hurley, NY and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews he loved very dearly. Oscar was predeceased by both his parents, two sisters Paulette Yarter and Linda Eighmey and his brother Vincent Ahrens.
