Pamela C. Kaman

Pamela C. Kaman , age 92, died peacefully at home on April 2, 2026, surrounded by family.  Pamela was born December 17, 1933, in the Parish of Chesterton, District of Cambridgeshire, England, to the late Alec M. Gautrey and his wife Lucy W. Gautrey.  She spent her formative years during WWII at the family home on High Street in Cottenham.  She attended the Margett Street School and continued her education at the Secondary Technical school in Cambridgeshire.  She sailed aboard the Queen Elizabeth II to the United States in 1954.

She met the love of her life, James L. Kaman, in Lakeland Florida and they married on April 4, 1959.  They  made their home in Hurley New York for over 50 years. She was proud to become a naturalized U.S. citizen on November 1, 1963.  Pam was first and foremost a devoted wife and mother. She attended countless school trips, was the perennial classroom mother, lead Girl Scout Brownie meetings and made creative Halloween costumes.  She ensured that life in our home on Zandhoek Road was fun, educational and filled with music, art, warmth, love, laughter and friends.  Pam had a generous spirit.  Pam and Jim were founding members of the Hurley Recreation Association, where they spent many hours volunteering and relaxing.  She volunteered as treasurer for the Hurley Volunteer Fire Company during the 1980s and volunteered in the giftshop at the Hurley Historical Society after she retired.  Pam and Jim were volunteers for the Ulster County Literacy Association and Pam volunteered to help the migrant community under the leadership of Dick Barnett.  A woman of grace and faith, she volunteered for the CCD program at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kingston in the late 1960s / early1970s, where she recruited teachers, taught, and arranged bus transportation for students.  She was the church organist at St. Joseph's Mission in Hurley for many years, accompanied by soloist and dear friend, Patricia Wootan. She was an avid gardener, loved birds, bible study, reading and crosswords; completing the NY Times Sunday crossword in ink each week. She was always ready for a travel adventure with family and had a terrific sense of humor. She never fully lost her British accent, which she used to full advantage when angry.   While raising her family, Pam worked out of the home as a transcriptionist and typist. When her daughters reached adulthood, Pam worked as a clerk in the loan department at Barclays Bank, (later Bank of New York), in Kingston, NY, where she retired in 1997.  Pam and Jim relocated in 2011 to New Hartford, NY where they resided with daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Matthew.  In her later years, she enjoyed sitting on the deck late into the night, looking for airplanes, satellites, meteors and fireflies.

She is survived by daughters Ruth A. Lehman (Stuart), Elizabeth J. Worth (Matthew) and Jennifer R. Macarille (James), grandsons Thayne Macarille and Anthony Pagliaro, and nephews Michael Kaman (Beth) and Tom Kaman, as well as great-nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her cherished husband, James L. Kaman, her brother, Hugh K. Gautrey, beloved mother-in-law Helen A. Kaman, beloved father-in-law Paul J. Kaman, and brother-in-law Paul J. Kaman Jr. and grandson Jared Macarille.

Pamela's family is grateful to Dr. Toby Taylor, his office nurses and staff, the doctors and nurses at Palliative Care and Hospice of Oneida County, and the CNAs and nurses of  Caregivers for the care they provided to Pam
