Paul Muller

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday July 9th from 4-7 PM.

A brief graveside service will be held on Thursday 11 AM at Fairview Cemetery in Stone Ridge.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we announce the passing of Paul Muller, 62, of Hurley, New York.  Paul passed away suddenly yet peacefully at his Hurley home on Friday, June 27, 2025.  Born Paul Erwin Muller in Kingston on June 3, 1963 (or 6363 as he liked to say), he was the son of the late Edward Emery Muller and Carla Jean Muller, nee Rosa.

To describe Paul in a few words would be virtually impossible.  He was an amazing man who lived an equally amazing life.  He grew up in the family homestead on Neighborhood Road in Lake Katrine and he eventually became very well known by many Ulster County residents during his lifetime.  It has been said that his vast network of friends rivaled that of his good buddy and late local legend, Walter Hung, Jr.

Some of his favorite memories of his youth were the 15 years that he and his     mother spent breeding Doberman Pinscher's on their Lake Katrine property.  This experience led to a lifetime love affair with canines which culminated with his favorite dog of all, a Boxer named Brooklyn.

Paul was employed as a truck driver with Teamsters Local 445 out of Newburgh for 22 years, driving for companies such as Argenio Brothers and Avello Construction.  He also drove for Hudson Valley Recycling through Operating Engineers Local 825 in Poughkeepsie until he slowed his pace during his later years by driving a school bus for First Student.

In his younger days, Paul enjoyed playing softball and volleyball in various City of Kingston and Town of Ulster leagues.  He was also an excellent dart and billiards player who used to play for fun in numerous local gin mills and also competitively in various local dart and pool leagues.  In recent years, he thoroughly enjoyed reliving his youth by attending and rooting for his son during his Town of Ulster/City of Kingston softball games and VFW team dart matches.

Paul was an exceptional mechanically inclined individual.  One of his many hobbies was tinkering with automobiles, especially muscle cars from the sixties and seventies.  He was a proud Ford Mustang fanatic and his pride and joy included a 1973 Mach 1 and a 1966 Fastback which he enjoyed restoring with his son, Ryan.

Paul was the ultimate jack of all trades.  He was also the quintessential handyman who was part carpenter, mechanic, electrician and plumber and could repair anything he set his mind to.  But Paul was probably best known for being an avid collector of practically anything collectible.  He would, without a doubt, put the TV cast of American Pickers fame to shame.  Paul enjoyed buying and selling but he loved buying and NOT selling even more!  He was the classic wheeler-dealer who collected numerous items including coins, antique firearms, Star Wars LEGO's, Hot Wheels toy cars, Lionel trains, diecast model cars and even old John Deere ride-on lawnmowers.

Paul was also a 20-year member of the Ruby Rod & Gun Club and a lover of hard rock music with Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne being one of his favorite rock anthems.  He was also an individual who on occasion enjoyed a good, strong cocktail and was adept at creating his own distinctive concoctions.  He would also enjoy a nice cold one while watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and he continuously reminisced about their mid-1990's Super Bowl championships.

Paul was also a headstrong and highly eclectic storyteller who specialized in telling tales that would make your head spin.  But he was also a person who enjoyed getting in touch with his gentler side by planting and meticulously maintaining his flowers outside his home.  He enjoyed reminiscing about the crazy times he had in his youth with his good friend Alex Shufelt who has long since moved to Brandon, Florida.  And he thoroughly loved spending time with his son and his very good friends from East Kingston---the Watzka family.

But perhaps Paul's best trait by far was his tendency to go out of his way to help friends, family members and even strangers.  He was well known for dropping anything and everything to help someone in need which included car breakdowns and other various unforeseen emergencies.  He also stepped up and served for many years as the primary caregiver for his elderly mother in his Hurley home when she became unable to care for herself.

It was no surprise to any of us when we learned that Paul had succumbed to an enlarged heart since we already knew long ago how big-hearted he actually was.  Rest In Peace and Godspeed to a good man.

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his older brother, Richard Edward J. Muller (who passed at two years old in 1955), his stepfather, Harold White, and his former "in laws", William & Margaret Miggins.  He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Kaschel of Kingston and his son, Ryan Paul Muller of the Town of Ulster; a brother, Gavin Muller (Denise Radcliffe) of Saugerties; a sister, Carol Tyler (Ricky) of Eufaula, Alabama; former partners Lois Kaschel and Margie Miggins, both of Kingston; nephews Dale, Lee and Michael Wierzbicki of Eufaula, Alabama and grandchildren Natalie and Brodie Jaret of Kingston.  Other survivors are Paul's closest lifelong friends including Corey Halwick of Lake Katrine, Martin Mack of Saugerties, Donny Amell of Long Island, Kenny Acker of East Kingston and best friend Larry Lasagni of Tampa, Florida.
