Peter Haig Kaprelian
August 16, 1966-December 10, 2024

Peter left this world on December 10th, 2024 at the age of 58. He will be sorely missed by his brother Matthew (Mary) and  sister Amy (Patrick) and nieces and nephews Gabby (Andrew), Aidan, Caroline and Kieran. He will also be missed by a wonderfully supportive group of friends and neighbors in the community of Kingston, his home for the last 16 years.

Peter was born in Manhattan in 1966 to a delighted Steve & Peg Kaprelian. They would move their family to Northern Westchester  to raise the family,  In high school, he was in just about every play, including many leading roles such as Conrad in Bye Bye Birdie and the Creature in Frankenstein. He was voted "most dramatic" his senior year, and later pursued his passion for cartooning, when he attended the School of Visual Arts and obtained a Bachelors of Art in Media Arts.

Our brother was a larger than life character, an immensely talented artist, and a natural performer who inspired everyone around him. From the time he could hold a crayon, he was drawing something. His passion for art was evident in everything he did; whether it was creating skits with Matt and Amy as children, or bringing comic book characters to life, and eventually illustrating the covers of every single program for his high school plays. Most recently, he continued to draw comics, sang in the choir at the church, and participated in a drumming group called Pook. His creativity knew no bounds.

Peter might have been tall with an imposing low voice, but if you knew him, you knew he was a kind gentle soul. He was also smart, funny, and insightful. He was a film encyclopedia, and a voracious reader with a huge appetite for politics, culture and every type of music you can imagine . He cared about equality and justice, and was sensitive to the needs of the marginalized. He cared deeply about his community in Kingston and was very grateful for all it gave back to him.

Peter's life was a testament to creativity and free thought, and he left an indelible impression on all who knew him.

Services will be held at the Old Dutch Reformed Church, Kingston 272 Wall St, Kingston, NY 12401

Visitation with family and friends, 10 a.m.
Service in the sanctuary, 11 a.m.
Committal in the churchyard, 12 p.m. Followed by a repast in Bethany Hall
