Philip Dammer

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 29th at Grace Community Church - 160 Seremma Court, Lake Katrine, NY 12449. 10:00 - 11:15 AM Visit with the family, 11:30 AM Service.

It is not necessary to wear the traditional black attire at Phil's service. We are saddened by his departure, but are celebrating the life of Phil - a man who now lives in heaven in the presence of Jesus Christ his Savior.

Philip Dammer     August 4, 1947 - July 22, 2023

Phil passed into the presence of his Savior peacefully on July 22, 2023, while surrounded by family singing his favorite hymns. Born August 4th, 1947, in Staten Island Hospital, 5 minutes ahead of his twin brother, Rick. Phil is the son of Solveig and Frederick Dammer. Phil was raised in Port Richmond on Staten Island and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with his brothers and many neighborhood friends.

Phil graduated from Port Richmond High School and Staten Island Community College. He then entered service in the U.S. Army in 1967, serving two years as an M.P. In New Mexico. After the army Phil finished his B.A. in Political Science at Richmond College, Staten Island. He played golf competitively in high school and community college, where he was also on the basketball team.

In the spring of 1983 Phil visited Bemiss Road Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA, where he gave his life to the Lord and began his spiritual journey. God, by His grace, dramatically changed Phil's heart and life forever.

Phil then moved to Chatham, NY, where he met Marilyn, the love of his life, at a home Bible study, introduced by his friend Joe. It might have been love at first sight! Phil and Marilyn were married May 11, 1985, at Clermont Bible Church where they continued to be active members. Their identical twin sons, Mathew and Nathan, were born in 1986, and their son Timothy in 1988. Phil and Marilyn were delighted to raise their sons and now welcome three lovely daughters-in-law to the family.

When the twins were infants, Phil went back to school and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in respiratory therapy. He worked at Albany Medical Center, Saint Francis Hospital, and Northern Dutchess Hospital over the next thirty years. Phil was highly respected and loved as a respiratory therapist and he touched the lives of many patients and coworkers.

Phil was an active part of Grace Community Church in Lake Katrine, and enjoyed singing and playing guitar as part of the worship team.

Phil was an avid reader, played guitar, banjo and trombone, enjoyed all types of music, and loved every sport (especially golf and basketball). He even took up baking in his retirement - biscotti and pizzelles were his specialties. He thoroughly enjoyed baking with his precious grandkids.

Surviving are Phil's wife (Marilyn), sons (Matthew, Nathan, Timothy), daughters-in-law (Julianne, Heather, Kate), grandchildren (Austin, Noelle, Colden, Blake, Gabriel, and Luke Philip), sister-in-law (Dorothy Dammer), and brothers (Richard & Peter Dammer). Phil was predeceased by his brother Frederick Dammer.
