Richard "Richie" French , 78, of The Bronx, moved to Dutchess County in 2002, passed on Wednesday February 26, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, surrounded by his loved ones. Born October 29, 1946 in The Bronx, New York he was the son of the late Edward and Caroline (Farol) French.

Richie was a proud United States Marine.  He was a night store manager for Pathmark for many years. Richie also loved to drive and even worked on a job that entailed traveling throughout the Northeast and Central US. He was an avid fan of sports, his favorite teams being: NJ Devils (hockey), NY Mets (baseball), NY Giants (football), UCONN girls basketball and would watch any other sport they had on TV.  His favorite authors were Louis Lamour and James Patterson. Everyone that knew Richie also knew he loved playing and coaching sports. Softball, bowling and poker were his favorites leaving many with great memories. Overall, his greatest attribute was the ability to make everyone around him laugh and smile.

Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Josephine (Lawlor) French;  his children and grandchildren: Dawn French (Cris), her children, Hector (JJ), Jenniffer, Nicholas; Sharon French, her son Christopher; Tara French (Kenny), her children, Jason, Tyra, Kenny, Makiya; Mike Gaughan, his daughter Paige; Garrett French, his children Mairead and Kayla; and Vanessa French, her children, Sarah, Destiny, Eliana and Michael. He has five great grandchildren, Maddison, Declan, Mayson, James and Scarlett. He also is survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces. He will be deeply missed by his other brother of many years (Selassie) Ali and Kay Keeler, who he loved like a daughter. Richie is now with his beloved Grandma Sadie, Aunt Gen, Uncle John and brother Jimmy.

As per Richie's wishes, there will be no funeral services. However, Richie requested a party for his loved ones to enjoy sharing pleasant memories filled with laughter and love. This joyous occasion will be set for June at one of his favorite venues. Please contact Josephine at Richie's email address: frenchr1029@gmail.com for further information. We would love to share any pictures or memories with all at the special Celebration of Life.
