Robert Tutt

Robert Tutt, 91, of Hurley, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026. He was born December 11, 1934, in Memphis, Tennessee, a son of the late Francis and Patye (Sensing) Tutt.

A graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, Robert proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard until his honorable discharge. In 1960, he began a career with IBM that brought him to the area he would call home. Over the course of more than 30 years with the company, he worked primarily in software development management assignments before retiring in 1991.

Throughout his life, Robert believed in giving his time and talents to his community. He was a longtime volunteer with The Salvation Army, serving for many years as chairman of its advisory board. He also devoted many years to Scouting, serving as a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 7, treasurer of Pack 103, and a member of the Rip Van Winkle Council Board, where he also served as vice president. He was a co-founder of the Fair Share Program, and his dedication to Scouting was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award.

Robert's faith was also an important part of his life. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Kingston, where he served on the Parish Finance Council for more than 10 years.

An avid runner, Robert found another way to bring together the things he enjoyed with his desire to serve others. He organized the first Salvation Army 5K Run and went on to serve as race director for Salvation Army races as well as Boy Scout and Heart Runs. He was a founding team member of the Kingston Classic, where he volunteered as the traffic control planner. His years of dedication to the event were recognized in 2012 when he was inducted into the Kingston Classic Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Onteora Runners Club for approximately 25 years.

Above all, Robert leaves behind a family who shared his life and will carry his memory forward. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Tutt; his four sons, Stephen Tutt and his wife, Gail, Brian Tutt, Warren Tutt and his wife, Debbie, and Kevin Tutt and his wife, Alicia; his five grandchildren, Chelsea, Noah, Brandon, Catherine, and Patrick; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his sister, Diana Halsey.

Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, August 14, from 3 to 6 p.m.

A funeral procession will form at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Kingston.
