Ronald Woods

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday November 5th from 4 PM until 7 PM.

A funeral procession will form Wednesday 9AM at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Ronald Woods , local sports author and philanthropist died Thursday October 31, 2024. He was born December 17, 1940 in Kingston, a son of the late John and Anna (Augustine) Woods.

Mr. Woods was a graduate of St. Mary's School, the Kingston High School Class of 1958 and Dutchess County Community College Class of 1960. He went on to attain degrees from University at Albany and University of Arizona. He worked as an educator in both English and Business for the Millbrook Central School District and was a chairman of Occupational Education for the New York State Teachers Union.

Mr. Woods was a longtime member of many Kingston Committees and projects including serving as the chairman of the Kingston Recreation Commission for fifty years and was a member of the Dietz Stadium Commission for thirty seven years. He was also the president of Kingston Junior Tennis Instruction. He was recognized as two-time Daily Freeman Sportsperson of the Year and due to his many contributions the Ron Woods Tennis Complex at Fortsyth Park bears his name and there is a plaque bearing his name in the wall of honor at Dietz Stadium. All of Ron's activities and services were volunteer.

Mr. Woods has written two books-"A Century of Play and the Major Players," and "Kingston's Magnificent City Parks" having donated all proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club. He has contributed to countless scholarships, charities in need, as well as many programs throughout the City of Kingston in regards to Parks and Recreation. He was also a volunteer advocate at nursing homes working and helping senior patients.  He also awarded a scholarship in his name to a Kingston High School student each year. His goal was always to help those less fortunate than him.

Mr. Woods is survived by his sister-in-law Louise Woods, niece Jodie Pacheco and her husband Santo (and children Abigail, Nicholas and Anna), and nephew Christopher Woods (Ramona Pacheco, and children Kelsey and Isabella) as well as adopted family Brad, Patty, Taylor (and her husband Ryan Deangelis) and Bradley Jordan Jr., and Todd and Julie Jordan and family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and best friend John J. Woods.
