ROSALIE JEAN MANEEN
JULY 6, 1928- AUGUST 4, 2023
Rosalie Jean Maneen (née Melfe) passed away suddenly in Newton, Massachusetts surrounded by her family on Friday, August 4, 2023. She was 95 years old. We are heartbroken at her passing. Hers was a life well lived and filled with the love of so many people who were important to her.
Rosalie was born on July 06, 1928, in Frankfort New York to Mary Frances and Alex Melfe. Her only sister, Lauretta Melfe Castronovo, predeceased her in 2008.
She attended Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania earning a bachelor's degree in education in 1949. She proudly earned a master's degree in Reading at Cortland in 1955 and went on to teach in the Kingston School System for 25 years.
Rosalie married the love of her life, Anthony J Maneen, on June 26,1954. Both teachers, they spent their working lives educating children in the Kingston City School District and raising their family there as well. The Maneen family enjoyed membership at Wiltwyck Country Club for many years where they were avid golfers and very active members of all the club's activities. Each fall she loved watching Notre Dame Football games with friends and family. Rosalie and Tony lived in Florida as snowbirds for many years, and were active in Sacred Heart RC Church in New Smyrna Beach, and Habitat for Humanity where they helped build housing for those less fortunate. She and Tony loved to travel and especially enjoyed visits to Calabria, Italy the home of her cherished father, Alex Melfe.
Rosalie truly valued her family and her faith. A devout Catholic, she attended daily Mass at St. Joseph's in Kingston, and Sacred Heart in New Smyrna Beach, Florida; as well as churches in Hampton, NH and Newton, MA.
She lived in Newton, MA, with her daughter, Mary Elizabeth and son in law, Mark Kazarosian since 2018. Mary Elizabeth ("Marybeth") was her primary care giver. Rosalie was an avid reader, loved to play cards, and attend family gatherings. She was happiest when there was a family party and she arrived as the chief coordinator of the "cooler brigade."
Rosalie is survived by her beloved family: Anthony Gerard (Kay), Alex John "AJ" (Theresa) Andrea Barry (Peter), Mary Elizabeth Kazarosian (Dr. Mark), and Leslie Ann Walsh (John). Her husband, Tony Sr., predeceased her in 2017. Rosalie is also survived by four grandsons: Colin Maneen, Jack and Ian Walsh and Paul Anthony Kazarosian. In addition, she was the aunt to many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu flowers please make contributions in memory of Rosalie Maneen to Saint Jude's Hospital, a cause dear to her heart.
