Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services and burial will be held privately.

Ruby J. Kelly, 89, of Glenerie Boulevard Town of Ulster died Saturday October 12, 2024 at HealthAlliance Hospital Mary's Avenue Campus. Born December 30, 1934 in Newfoundland, Canada she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Myra (Adey) King.

Ruby was unstoppable and the definition of creating your own destiny. From a young age she chose courage, leaving all that she knew behind and traveling alone to the US with just an infant and a dream of the life she wanted. She never gave up on that dream, and worked hard to ensure she achieved all she set out to do.

Ruby dedicated herself to caring for those around her, supporting her loved ones in difficult times, raising her children, and being deeply involved in her grandchildren's lives, then establishing a career as a private caregiver. Her patients quickly became family, showcasing her compassionate and nurturing spirit. She was always there whenever anyone needed her.

To meet Ruby was to remember her. Entering a room full of strangers only meant she would make that many new friends by the time she made her exit. She loved to go on cruises, and often told stories of the people she met and how she would be friends with everyone on the ship by the last day. She was a natural extrovert and she took great joy in hosting celebrations in her home, making sure you knew she was the hostess with the mostest.

Ruby was a great neighbor to "the boulevard" and spent many years serving on the board of the Glenerie Lake Park Improvement Association where she was a lifelong member.  She will be remembered for her vibrant energy, strong will, and infectious laugh that filled the room and we find comfort knowing she is reunited with her longtime friends Mary and Paula.

Ruby is survived by her son Robert Carter, daughter Jeannie DeFilippo and her husband Joseph. Grandchildren Patrick (Rebecca Selle and her son Josh), Michele (Matt Liebel and his daughter Madison) and Ashley DeFilippo.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband Edward J. Kelly, previous husband Gene Carter and their two sons Clifford and Gary Carter, and her two brothers Robert and William King.
