Sandra K. Fiore

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 19th from 4-7 PM. There will be a Nightingale Service at 5pm.

A Catholic service will be held at the funeral home at 11 AM on Saturday, September 20, with burial to follow at The Hurley Cemetery.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sandra K. Fiore. Sandra was a beloved wife, a selfless and amazingly loving mother, a generous and fun grandmother, an unwavering, supportive friend and a kind, patient, nurturing nurse.

Sandra was born in Kingston, NY, on December 30, 1941, to Frederick and Margaret Stohr. She spent her childhood years in Dobbs Ferry, graduating from Dobbs Ferry High School as a member of the class of 1960. Sandra enjoyed spending her summers with her aunt and cousins in East Kingston, which is how she met her husband Bruce Fiore; they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year. After high school Sandra attended The Kingston Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1963, and was recognized for her consideration and efficiency - anyone who knew Sandra as a nurse would be familiar with those characteristics throughout her career.

Sandra was the proud mother and eventually mother-in-law of three children and seven grandchildren. A son Scott and his wife Laura Fiore, their children Devon Powers and her husband Garrity, Paige Fiore and Jack Fiore. A daughter Meg and her husband Salvatore Barillari, their children Mark and Nicholas Barillari. A son Eric and his wife Christine Fiore, their children Megan and Julia Fiore. In addition to her immediate family Sandra leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. To Sandra, she could meet you one time and she would consider you a friend. She was always looking to offer a helping hand and it was nearly impossible to go anywhere in Kingston without someone running toward her to give her a hug or express words of thanks for some act of kindness by Sandra.

Early in her nursing career Sandra worked as a maternity nurse and eventually as an operating room nurse. She paused her career to stay home, in the town that she loved, Hurley, where she devoted her time and endless energy to her beloved children and family working occasionally as a private duty nurse on the side.

Sandra returned to nursing part time in the late 1970's at The Benedictine Hospital. She was also an office nurse for Dr. Herbert Schwartz, and worked part time at the Surgery Center on Hurley Avenue. Sandra is best known for her role as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant at the Benedictine Hospital's Mother's Club where she nurtured new mothers through what can be an emotional and challenging time. She was often described as an "angel" or a "miracle worker" by what she called "her mothers." Sandra gave these new mothers her

home phone number and often spent hours on the phone each evening selflessly supporting the new moms with patience and the same love she showed to her own family and friends. Her outgoing personality combined with her dedication allowed the Mother's Club to thrive for 30 years where she was able to help thousands of mothers and their newborns babies.

Somehow Sandra found time for one of her favorite hobbies, gardening, which she enjoyed right through this summer. She also participated in several plays at Coach House Players in the early 1990's, including 70 Girls 70 and her favorite role as "Sophie" in Social Security.

Sandra loved all things Hurley. In lieu of flowers, please know that expressions of sympathy can be made to one of many organizations she loved in Hurley, The Hurley Recreation Association, The Hurley Nursery School, The Hurley Heritage Society, The Hurley Library or The Hurley Reformed Church. The Fiore family would also like to recognize Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice of Newton, NJ, for their support during her end-of-life health struggles, for our family the Hospice caregivers are like living saints and angels on Earth.
