Friends and family will be received on Sunday, August 2 from 4-7 pm at the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home in Kingston.

A funeral home service will be held Monday, August 3 at 11 A. M. with the Father John Kearney officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Marion Cemetery. 

Scott Edward Richter, 51, of Mount Marion, New York, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. Born on May 1, 1975, in Kingston, he was the son of Barbara Havey and Edward Richter.

Scott graduated from Saugerties High School in 1993 and Columbia-Greene Community College in 1995, where he studied mechanics. Scott dedicated more than 30 years to small engine repair. He began his career at Jan’s Mower Shop; then owned Kingston Lawn and Power Equipment, and continued working there for the Finches, then Bruno families. He also served for three years with the New York State Thruway Authority.

On October 8, 2005, Scott married Kimberly Chubb at the Plattekill Reformed Church. Together they welcomed their son, Thomas Scott Richter, July 19, 2010. A gifted mechanic, craftsman, and problem solver, Scott was known as the “Voice of Reason.” Scott was the person that friends and neighbors turned to for mechanical advice. He built a tiny home, remodeled his family’s house, created a backyard oasis, and handcrafted projects for Thomas, including Pinewood Derby cars and Cub Scout carnival games. Scott never missed one of his son’s Biddy Basketball, Little League, Babe Ruth, football, chorus and band concerts. Scott enjoyed cooking, welding, four-wheeling in restoring his Uncle Jack’s Jeep. He loved welding, blacksmithing, knife making, and antique tractors. He also had a remarkable connection with animals and was known for his kindness, his sense of humor and willingness to help.

Scott is survived by his wife, Kimberly; his son, Thomas Scott Richter; and his siblings, William (Billy) Richter of Kingston, Shirley Walker of Lake Hill, Linda Maragodakis of Shokan, and Remson (JR.) Richter of Phoenix, Arizona. He was predeceased by his parents, Barbara and Edward Richter; his brother, Wayne Richter;  his great-uncle and godfather, Jack Richter; his nephew, William Richter; and his grandmother, Helen Havey.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as a contribution to establish a college fund for Thomas Richter in care of Kelly Mazzuca.
