Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held at the Hurley Reformed Church on Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
Burial will follow at Hurley Cemetery.
Shirley J. Ruth, 88, of Hurley died Friday November 8, 2024 at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born February 27, 1936 in Kingston, New York she was the daughter of the late Myron Boice Sr. and Elinor Jane (Shaw) Boice.
Shirley was a graduate of Kingston High School Class of 1953 and received her associates degree from Delhi. She was the Librarian at the Hurley Library until her retirement. She was previously employed as a Secretary at IBM where she met her husband. She was a lifetime member of Hurley Reformed Church, Sunday School Teacher, previous president of the Hurley Reformed Choir, Deacon and Member of its Women's Guild, a scout leader for Girl Scouts, member of Hurley Quilters, 4-H Leader, Board Member Hudson Valley Senior Residence, mentor at Kennedy School and Treasurer Cemetery Association Board.
Shirley is survived by her children; Kathleen Jansen and her husband Craig, Theresa Ruth and her husband Ernie Mossl, Richard P. Ruth III, James Ruth and his wife Linda. Grandchildren; Erin Ruth and her husband Darshan Malde, Mallory Ruth and her fiancé John T. McLaughlin, Veronica Ruth and Collin Ruth. Step grandchildren Audrey and Conrad Mossl. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard P. Ruth Jr., her siblings Lewis, Roger, Myron "Mike" Boice Jr., Eleanor Leedecke, Anna McGinnis and Ida Bogert.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Hurley Reformed Church or The Hurley Library.
