Sonia Peterson

Services will be held Tuesday February 4, 2025 at Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley, 243 Albany Avenue Kingston, New York at 1 PM.

Burial will follow in the Montrepose Cemetery.

Sonia Peterson passed away on Saturday February 1, 2025 at her daughter's home in Yardley, Pennsylvania at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Louis Peterson. They were married for 39 years. She was also predeceased by her brother Sol Koppel. Sonia was born in Manhattan, NYC January 23, 1933. She is a daughter of the late Sam Koppel and Anna Langer Koppel.

She grew up in the Lower East Side, Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY. She also resided in Kingston, NY and Ocala, FL and finally Yardley, PA.

Sonia was a Medical Records Coding Specialist at Kingston Hospital in Kingston, NY from 1986 to 1998. She was a member of Temple Emanuel Kingston, NY and Temple Beth Shalom Ocala FL. Sonia was very active in her religious affiliations and enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and was always available to fix any family garment emergencies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed classic movies. She loved ice cream and always had plenty of stock in the backup freezer.

The immediate family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania and Chandler Hall Hospice Service in Newtown, Pennsylvania for their kind and loving care.

Sonia is survived by her brother Harold Koppel. Children; Daniel Peterson, Steven Peterson and Merrill Calvitto. Grandchildren; Andrew Peterson, Justin Calvitto, Patricia Calvitto, Corey Peterson and Rebecca Peterson. Great-grandchild; Amelia Loren Cooper.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
