Steve Satten

Steve Satten , a beloved local legend known as Satten From Manhattan, passed away on April 15th, 2025 in Saugerties, NY after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Arthur and Edith (Levy) Satten on October 24th, 1947, Steve's life was a vibrant tapestry of music, family and entrepreneurial spirit. He lived and died in Saugerties where he built a rich life with his wife of over 50 years Susannah (Bauer) Satten, whom he loved deeply and cherished as his cornerstone.

Steve's passion for music was sparked at age 12. A gifted trumpeter, pianist, drummer, singer and producer, his smooth voice and charisma captivated audiences, whether touring with Ten Wheel Drive in the 1970s or performing solo alongside icons like Richard Tee, Pee Wee Ellis, Roy Hargrove and Cissy Houston.

His 1975 debut album "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me?" produced for Columbia Records, earned critical acclaim. In 1978, he founded Contempo Vibrato Recordings, releasing albums with luminaries like Jimmy Cobb, Freddie Hubbard, Dave Liebman and Gregory Hines.

Beyond music, Steve was a successful real estate developer serving as owner/broker of Good Earth Properties, developing and managing numerous properties in Saugerties and surrounding areas. A devoted family man, Steve's heart belonged to Susannah, his children Vanessa and Travis Satten, daughter-in-law Amina Satten and granddaughter Zasha Satten, who brought him immense joy.

Steve's legacy lives on through his music, family and community contributions.

A private memorial will be held in Saugerties in his honor.
