Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday August 1st from 3-7 PM.
A funeral procession will form Saturday 9 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church.
Thomas J. "Rags" Morrissey, 90 , of Kingston died Tuesday July 29, 2025 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. He was born November 23, 1934 in Kingston a son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Olsen) Morrissey.
Rags was employed as a New York State Trooper for many years. He was a long time friend of Bill W and after retirement from the State Police he worked for Charlie Teelon at Waste Management. He looked forward to and enjoyed his many times spent in Virginia for his birthday and Thanksgiving.
Surviving is his wife Elaine (Stepski) Morrissey, daughter Stefanie Salazar and her husband Ben of Norfolk,VA, son Joseph Morrissey of Kingston, grandchildren Benjamin, Thomas, Steven Salazar, Norfolk, VA, Alexander Salazar, Richmond VA, nephew Rick Salzmann, and niece Betsy Arlantico.
He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Michael Morrissey; his sister Harriet Salzmann.
Elaine is quoted as saying "some people go from Rags to Riches, I went from Riches to Rags!"
When asked about the history of his nickname, It was said that his father sold a washing machine to a lady and when he was asked how it was working he answered " it turned all the clothes into rags!"
