Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday March 2nd from 1-4 PM. A service will be held at 4 PM.
Walter H. "Skip" Baganz, Jr., 74, died Saturday February 25, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Born May 7, 1948 in Kingston, he is the son of the late Walter H. Baganz, Sr. and Muriel (Sobers) Baganz.
Skip spent his life working grocery retail. He managed various Shop Rite stores throughout the region before owning and operating two IGA Supermarkets in Saugerties and Port Ewen. In the Fall of 2000, a fire destroyed the Country Fresh Market in Port Ewen. Skip then took his talents to Adam's Fairacre Farms in Kingston and Newburgh. A stroke in 2006, left him partially disabled. In 2021, Skip retired from Adam's in Newburgh as a produce clerk.
Sailing the Hudson and beyond was his passion. Hanging out at the Hideaway Marina with Vinny Kelder was at the top of his list. He loved being outside. Skip built his house in the woods of Esopus so that he could enjoy the natural sights and sounds. There was always a dog to share life with. Skip and his dogs were best friends.
Surviving at the home he built, is his wife Jeanne (Howe) of forty three years. A daughter Elizabeth Baganz-Randolph and her husband Richard of Union Beach, New Jersey, sons Joseph Baganz and his wife Elizabeth of Kingston, and Doug Baganz of New Paltz. Grandchildren Quinn and Sarah Baganz, Troy and Zackary Randolph, and the late Timothy Baganz. Two sisters Wanda Cooper of Saugerties and Jeanette Neubauer (William) of Safety Harbor, Florida. Two nephews Neil Borst and Nicholas Neubauer also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice at www.hvhospice.org .
