Alan Aidala

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday April 9th from 2-7 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM on Saturday April 11th at St. Joseph's Church in Kingston.

Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Alan J. Aidala. He died on Thursday, April 2nd following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 23, 1955 in Kingston NY to Frank and Marie (Lang) Aidala, Alan spent more than half of his life as an educator and mentor in the Kingston City School District.

Alan graduated from Coleman Catholic High School in 1973. Following high school, he attended SUNY Ulster, received his bachelor's degree from SUNY New Paltz, and a master's degree from the College of St. Rose. His first job was at St. Joseph's School in Kingston where he was a reading teacher. In 1984, he joined the ranks at Kingston High School where he remained until his retirement in June 2025. Alan wore many hats there-his most important as a school counselor, but also as a class advisor, student government advisor, Harvard Model UN advisor, and running the SAT program for many years just to name a few.

Alan's passion was working with students. His office was often filled with kids as he helped them navigate their futures. You could often find him at Dietz Stadium or at Kate Walton Field House on the sidelines for many games and matches. Alan made strong connections with students and celebrated them long after their time at KHS. He was also a supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston as many of his students attended there.

Beyond his profession, Alan loved his family fiercely, was grounded in his faith, enjoyed spending time with close friends, cooking, gardening, took pride in his home, was a die-hard Mets fan, and enjoyed the occasional practical joke as long as he wasn't on the receiving end.

Although our community mourns this great man, Alan's legacy will live on in the lives of the people he touched for many generations to come and he will be missed tremendously.

Alan is survived by his son Scott Ricketson and his wife Christine (Post) and grandson Carter; his siblings Gary Aidala (Kate Luther); Donna Brady; James Aidala (Desiree); Ann Policastro (Albert); Paul Aidala (Mary); his nieces and nephews Michael (partner Aimee Rutledge)and Lindsay Aidala; Kyley Faulkner (children Brady and Evan), Shane Aidala (Chelsea and children Macie and Dylan); Brianna Wojcio (Tim and daughter Hazel); Shea Policastro; Cody Aidala (Victoria Aidala and son Anthony); Ava and Samantha Aidala; Ali Kendall (Rob and daughter Eva); close friends the Ruzzo family and work-wife Karen Madonna.

He is predeceased by his parents Marie and Frank, brother in law Willliam R. Brady, aunt Josephine Higgins, great niece Lillie Aidala, and best friend Victor Ruzzo.
